You either have time or money to throw at or get involved in your important life projects.
If you make a great living and travel a ton and you want to start your online business at home, you most likely will have to pay designers, developers and hosting companies to get you across the finish line and that can be very expensive.
But hey, you have the money right?
We prefer the Do It Yourself (DIY) pathway. Why? Because life is a journey and it is what you learn along the way that changes you, enhances your growth and deepens your experiences.
Once you know how to do something successfully, then all you need to do is duplicate the process in other areas.
We also love that more and more women are becoming comfortable with the DIY philosophy.
Here is one DIY Girl team that has a fascinating approach to fashion. Check it out. They are called DIY Girls Hack and they can do some incredible things with scissors.

There are some other DIY Girls making some noise in the area of technology and in terms of employment, a lot more female noise needs to be made there.
Turning our attention to the informative business industry reporters at smallbiztrends.com, they report, “According to data compiled by virtual event solutions company, Evia, women make up less than 20 percent of U.S. tech jobs, even though they make up more than half of the U.S. workforce.
Even worse, women now hold a lower share of computer science jobs than they did in the 1980s. This is surprising because unemployment across tech positions in 2016 at 2.5 percent was significantly lower than the 4.9 percent national average.”
That is unfortunate news because if you graduated from college and are working in a coffee shop, good for you that you have work but look at the Tech Industry and how employers are begging for jobs to be filled.
If you are young and wondering what career to pursue, you should really think about the tech industry.
Research reveals there were 627,000 unfilled positions in tech in April 2017.
On May 17, 2018 Forbes magazine reported, “Currently, women hold only 5% of leadership positions in the tech industry, and more than two-thirds of US startups have no women on their board of directors.”
There is good news on the tech horizon.
Some DIY women are trying to do something to change that culture and improve those statistics.
Simple ideas passionately pursued are best. So many great ideas originate in sunny Southern California.
Their name is simply DIY Girls.
Here is what they are about as share at diygirls.org. “DIY (“Do-It-Yourself”) Girls’ mission is to increase girls’ interest and success in technology, engineering and making through innovative educational experiences and mentor relationships. We’re a supportive community for girls driven by an interest in creating and building with technology.
DIY Girls uses a three-pronged program approach that integrates engagement, capacity building, and continuity to ensure girls’ success. We offer after-school and summer programs that provide hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) experiences for girls. Girls learn technical skills and apply them by creating their own creative projects and inventions.”
Sounds like a wonderful premise in a much needed employment pathway.
“Entrepreneurs have a natural inclination to go it alone. While this do-it-yourself spirit can help you move forward, adding an element of collaboration into the mix can make you unstoppable.”…Leah Busque
They reached over 2000 girls in Los Angeles since 2012.
They do what they do in order to change the way girls perceive tech careers. They believe that creating with tech builds the confidence needed to make anything possible. They want DIY girls to apply the technical skills they learn to projects they love.
They continue, “In 2018, DIY Girls gave 842 aspiring female engineers and computer scientists access to programs and activities that not only promote skill development, but also inspire girls to pursue degrees and/or careers in STEM-related fields. Our organization expanded its reach to three new school sites, and as a result of a generous contribution from the Eva Longoria Foundation, we launched a 3-year pilot at Girls Athletic Leadership School. DIY Girls is extremely excited about each of these new endeavors. We believe that establishing deeper and sustained connections with the girls we serve will play a significant role in increasing the number of women that enter the STEM workforce.
Word-of-mouth has spread about our organization’s work to civic leaders, corporations, and foundations, which has allowed us to grow our network of partners and increase our visibility in the community. DIY Girls joined the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s WiSTEM L.A initiative. Its primary focus is to develop and empower female STEM leaders within Los Angeles through mentorship, networking, and community. We’ve established partnerships with Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft and Verizon. Their support contributed to our most successful Annual Cocktail Benefit to date, resulting in more than $70,000 raised towards our STEM-based programs.”
We are very excited about what this innovative group is doing. We are very confident that they are going to increase the numbers of qualified women to fulfill jobs in the tech industry.
When it comes to doing it yourself, Girl Power can be a powerful and positive force.
