So why is this important to you?

If you are in their Rewards Program it looks like you can be there for a very long time.

Here’s what Southwest has to say about their rewards program.

Originally launched in 1987, Rapid Rewards Members who once earned credits can now earn points by flying or through qualifying purchases with our Partners. Members can redeem their points for every seat, every day, on every flight with absolutely no blackout dates or seat restrictions, and points won’t expire as long as Members have earning activity within a 24-month time period. Points are earned for every dollar spent on Southwest® flights, and the amount of points earned is based on the fare and fare product purchased.

The number of Rapid Rewards Points that are needed to redeem for flights varies based on factors such as destination, time, day of travel, and availability. Rapid Rewards Points are also earned by spending with a variety of Rapid Rewards Partners. Rapid Rewards Credit Cardmembers can redeem their points for expanded international travel, gift cards, hotels, car rentals, merchandise, and more. Learn more about the program by visiting the Rapid Rewards web site.

It’s always nice when others believe your program is exceptional as well. The informative site travel.usnews.com shares, “The Southwest Rapid Rewards program is most beneficial for travelers based in the southwest United States who frequently fly to major cities around the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. Since merging with AirTran, Southwest offers more than 3,600 flights a day to more than 90 destinations. By becoming a Southwest Rapid Rewards member, you’ll earn points for every dollar spent on Southwest flights and with the airline’s hotel, car rental and retail partners. If you have one of the Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards from Chase Visa, you can earn additional points on Southwest Airlines and partner purchases and by making everyday purchases.”
