The Luna Winters of the world rarely come along, so when they do you must appreciate them.
There were several adjectives about the Italian beauty Luna Winter who wrestled in the 1990s that were obvious.
The first is her name. The name Luna is a Latin baby name. In Latin the meaning of the name Luna is: The moon. In Mythology Luna is one of the names of Artemis the moon goddess.
Goddess she certainly was and a shining star too.
“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars”……………..Les Brown
She was incredibly beautiful, statuesque, feminine and skilled when she wanted to be.
As much as she enjoyed competing, at times she also enjoyed being dominated completely by another beautiful woman. Her long dark locks would often fan out in erotic despair as she lay pinned beneath another shapely bathing suit clad princess, panting and ready to submit.
By contrast when she wanted to she could clearly raise her level of engagement. Once when she visited a club in Florida, most likely to her initial embarrassment, in front of a crowd she was school girl pinned by an American newbie.
Excited the newcomer hoped to repeat her success and assumed she had Luna in a weakened position and then Luna began to dismiss that notion by saying words to the effect, “I can sing…. I can dance….” In other words, no problem. She broke the hold and went on to defeat the American novice.
Her contemporaries at the time: Angela, Kelly Blair, Lena Evans, Terri Vixen, Jill Monroe, Lucy, Vanessa B, Susan Strong, Sonja among others surely enjoyed engaging and often submitting this soft shapely Italian beauty at their wrestling club in England.
In my opinion the most erotic match she ever competed in was inside the famous yellowish living room with the stately portraits of British nobility past, hung on the four walls was against Anne Marie. There was beauty, feminine submission, flowing hair and shapely curves everywhere.
With the looks of a runway model it’s fitting that Luna is a native of the fashion jewel of the world, Milan, Italy.
The informative site milanitaly.ca confirms this stating, “Milan is Italy’s second largest city and a world center for banking and high fashion. Famous city landmarks include the Duomo (Milan Cathedral), the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping plaza and the La Scala Opera House.
Many people visit Milan to shop for fashionable Italian shoes, dresses and suits.”
The educational site Wikipedia adorns us with a full wardrobe. “While Rome is Italy’s political capital, Milan is the country’s economic and financial heart. With a 2010 GDP estimated at €132.5 billion, the province of Milan generates approximately 9% of the national GDP; while the economy of the Lombardy region generates approximately 20% of the Italy’s GDP (or an estimated €325 billion in 2010, roughly the size of Belgium).
Milan is widely regarded as a global capital in industrial design, fashion and architecture.
In the 1950s and 60s, as the main industrial center of Italy and one of Europe’s most dynamic cities, Milan became a world capital of design and architecture. There was such a revolutionary change that Milan’s fashion exports accounted for $726 million (U.S. currency) in 1952, and by 1955 that number grew to $2.5 billion.
Modern skyscrapers, such as the Pirelli Tower and the Torre Velasca were built, and artists such as Bruno Munari, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani and Piero Manzoni gathered in the city.
Today, Milan is still particularly well known for its high-quality furniture and interior design industry. The city is home to FieraMilano, Europe’s largest permanent trade exhibition, and Salone Internazionale del Mobile, one of the most prestigious international furniture and design fairs.
Milan is also regarded as one of the fashion capitals of the world, along with New York City, Paris, and London. Milan is synonymous with the Italian prêt-à-porter industry, as many of the most famous Italian fashion brands, such as Valentino, Gucci, Versace, Prada, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, are headquartered in the city.
Numerous international fashion labels also operate shops in Milan. Furthermore, the city hosts the Milan Fashion Week twice a year, one of the most important events in the international fashion system. Milan’s main upscale fashion district, quadrilatero della moda, is home to the city’s most prestigious shopping streets (Via Monte Napoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant’Andrea, Via Manzoni and Corso Venezia), in addition to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the world’s oldest shopping mall.”
“When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator”.…………….Mahatma Gandhi
At times Luna would surprise us and display a different fashion sense by dawning long braids resembling the Bo Derek look.
She also surprised me when she met New Zealand star Lisa Marie. I expected a blowout complete with the infamous Lisa victory humiliation pose but that was not the case as Luna put up a great fight and put the tall Kiwi to work.
I watched so many Luna Winter wrestling matches and listened to the chimes of her very soft feminine voice, it’s as though what we do in life truly does echo any eternity.
Luna is greatly missed. Where did the time go and why did it go so fast? I guess as fans, it’s because we were having fun.
It was a very sad day when it was announced that Luna had retired.
Given the volume of Luna’s resume, a small tribute does not do her justice but we must do the best that we can.
Yes, many aspects of Luna’s charismatic persona at the time were expected.
What was also expected, even then while watching her entertain, you knew with certainty, like one of those powerful, timeless Italian statues thrusting into a blue expansive cloudless sky; her beautiful memory encased by her sweet feminine voice would softly echo forever.
