Shaped by a historic land rich with steeples that thrust towards the sky amid rooftops washed in fall colors of burnt orange and brown while surrounded by enchanted scenic rolling hills, it’s no surprise that a new champion has emerged in professional women’s tennis from the Czech Republic.

Watching the 6 ft. 1 inch statuesque Czech beauty Karolina Pliskova prepare to serve with her long arms out stretched to reach the skyward toss, is like watching female tennis perfection in motion.

“I go to Prague every year if I can, value my relationships there like gold, and feel myself in a sense Czech, with all their hopes and needs. They are a people I not only love, but admire.”… Ellis Peters

As of this August 1, 2017 writing, she is currently ranked world No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

Very impressive.

Karolina has won nine singles and five doubles titles on the WTA tour, as well as 10 singles and six doubles titles on the ITF circuit in her career. On 31 October 2016, she peaked at world No. 11 in the doubles rankings.

She reached her first career Grand Slam final at the 2016 US Open, where she was runner-up in three sets.

As a junior, our Czech beauty won the girls’ singles event at the 2010 Australian Open, defeating Laura Robson in the final. She has also played for the Czech Republic in Fed Cup competition.

Karolina has an identical twin sister, Kristýna, who is two minutes older and is also a tennis player.

Her ascension has been well-chronicled.

On July 11, 2017 at chicagotribune.com they report, “Karolina Pliskova will rise to No. 1 in the WTA rankings for the first time next week despite a second-round loss at Wimbledon — and no Grand Slam titles.

Pliskova, a 25-year-old from the Czech Republic, was assured of moving up two places from No. 3 when the woman who currently is No. 2, Simona Halep, was beaten in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Tuesday.”

Congratulations are in order.

2014 was a breakthrough year for Karolina.

After consecutive second-round finishes in Auckland and at the Australian Open, she reached her second career WTA tour final in Pattaya City, defeating top-50 players Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sorana Cîrstea before losing to Ekaterina Makarova in the final.

At the 17 previous Grand Slams she had never made it through the 3rd round, but the 2016 US Open changed it all.

On her way to the final she lost only one set and defeated both Williams sisters, before losing a dramatic final battle to the then new incoming world number one Angelique Kerber.

Soon it would be Karolina’s turn.

When you can fight and claw your way to the top as Karolina has, like an elegant debutante at her coming out party, you have the right to announce yourself to the world.

At her dynamic site karolina-pliskova.com she smiles in the third person, “Karolína Plíšková takes the world tennis throne! The dream has come true on the grass courts of Wimbledon and Plíšková is the first Czech player in history to become the world number one. She has accomplished this huge achievement after her rival, Simona Halep of Romania, lost her quarterfinal match.”

Karolína has been enjoying the best season of her career.

She has won three tournaments so far this year and reached the semifinal at the Grand Slam in Paris, as well as at Mandatory events in Indian Wells and Miami.

She explains, “I’m doing really well this year, apart from a few exceptions. Being the world number one is a huge responsibility for me. I feel firm determination, I will keep practicing hard and I want to show that I deserve this status.”

Karolina? We already know that you deserve it.

Her success is attracting friends in high corporate places.

When you visit their website, guess whose picture that have front and center?

They are proud to be her sponsor.

The company has made strings since 1875, when Pierre Babolat created the first strings made of natural gut. Babolat continued to focus on strings until 1994, when it became a “total tennis” company, producing also racquet frames and selling them in Europe.

Karolina also partners with Fila who you’ve most likely heard of.

It’s nice to know that the promotion and enhancement of Karolina’s career is in good hands.

No doubt it took a wonderful village to shape young Karolina’s future.

She was born in Louny.

Louny is a town in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It is situated on the River Ohře.

The town’s architecture was formed mainly in the 19th and 20th centuries when many old buildings were torn down. Nevertheless, the most important architectural feature is Roman Catholic St. Nicholas Church, erected between 1517 and 1537 in the late Gothic style.

The architectural landscape is historic and memorable.

Watching Karolina compete and grow is historic and memorable.

As she stands tall behind the baseline, tosses the ball high and raises her arms towards the clouds, yes she is number one now, but in terms of future great possibilities, like a majestic Czech steeple, her brilliant young career is absolutely headed skyward.
