June 12, 2024,
A proactive life is a better life.
Far more productive.
Far more effective in helping you get what you want.
Think about this one.
James Lovell Jr. is an American retired astronaut, naval aviator, test pilot and mechanical engineer.
In 1968, as command module pilot of Apollo 8, he became, with Frank Borman and William Anders, one of the first three astronauts to fly to and orbit the Moon.
He was once quoted as saying, “There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened. To be successful, you need to be a person who makes things happen.”
There you go.
Well said.
How would you say you are living your life?
We have a friend in our circle who makes things happen.
Some people watch the champions, he builds the champions they watch on the field. Some people rent residences, he was a land lord for 20 years. Some people read the books. He has a manuscript copyrighted in Washington D. C.
Some people read blogs and websites, he produces more than one.
We sense you get the point.
There is a line of reasoning that if you go through this life with a more proactive and assertive approach, you will tend to get more of what you want and live a life closer to the one you desire.
Proactive behavior refers to self-initiated behavior that endeavors to solve a problem before it has occurred.
In another related meaning, the 1946 book Man’s Search for Meaning brought the word to the wider public domain. The author, Austrian existential neuropsychiatrist Dr. Viktor Frankl, used the word to describe a person who took responsibility for his or her life, rather than looking for causes in outside circumstances or other people.
Proactive behavior involves acting in advance of a future situation, rather than reacting.
It refers to taking control of a situation and making early changes, rather than adjusting to a situation or waiting for something to happen.
One extremely important area that you can be proactive in, is with your money.
We all know certain things are going to happen. You have to pay the rent or mortgage. You have to pay your utility bills. You need groceries. You need transportation to get to work.
We could go on.
Wouldn’t it be wise to be proactive and try and make more money than you spend?
If you do, how much of a savings account can you build up for a rainy day? At some point, it is always going to rain.
Don’t wait until you are behind the eight ball.
Be proactive and get ahead of it.
One group, primarily among the younger generation, that is aggressive in going after what they want are Social Media Stars.
Like young Addison Rae.
Addison Rae is an American pop singer, actress and dancer. Ms. Rae rose to fame on TikTok and has amassed over 88 million followers, making her the fifth most-followed individual on the platform.
Amazing.
After signing a publishing deal with Sandlot Records in 2021, Addison released her debut single, “Obsessed“, which peaked at number ten on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The song was later included on Rae’s debut EP, AR. She also made her acting debut in the Netflix original film, He’s All That (2021) and starred in the holiday film Thanksgiving (2023).
As of July 3, 2021, she has amassed over 81 million followers on TikTok, ranking as the fourth most-followed individual on the platform behind Charli D’Amelio, Khaby Lame, and Bella Poarch.
In August 2020, Addison was named as the highest-earning TikTok personality by Forbes Magazine.
She released her debut single, “Obsessed” in March 2021, and made her acting debut in He’s All That, a remake of the 1999 film released by Netflix on August 27, 2021.
Now, that is what you call star power.
How did she become one?
Addison first joined TikTok in July 2019, uploading dance videos to trending songs on the platform.
She has been part of the Hype House, a TikTok collaborative group, since its formation in December 2019.
In just a few months, our luminary gained over one million followers on TikTok and decided to leave LSU in November.
A family affair, Addison’s rapid success led her to signing with talent agency WME in January 2020, along with her parents.
Now that is being incredibly proactive.
How can you be more proactive in your life?
Let’s walk over to the bookstore for some suggestions.
