In folklore the horse at times symbolizes personal drive, passion and appetite for freedom. Among all the spirit animals, it is one that shows a strong motivation that carries one through life.

DWW’s beautiful Maiden, Petulla, now a mature woman in her forties, has demonstrated a drive to be admired, a passion for competition and an appetite for victory that made her one of DWW’s more popular wrestlers when she began competing in approximately 2003-2005.

The sexy wild mares that she competed against were Renate K, Lenka, Antonia, Dani, Eva, Simona, Monika N, Luzia, Eva P, Michaela, Edita, Lenka and Laila to name a few.

Here is how one reviewer described one of Petulla’s first competitions. “This is one of Pettula’s first wrestling matches versus similar novice wrestler Renate K. back in early 2003. It is an apartment wrestling match in jeans shorts for pins and submissions. As both women weren’t that much skilled, you’ll find lots of ambition and surprising moves and holds in this match with its authentic and pretty nice apartment atmosphere with other girls watching them and cheering them on.”

My favorite match was when she met the sensuous fresh faced Michaela in an apartment duel; woman handled her and completely had her way with her. Struggle that she may, the gorgeous, shapely Michaela had no answers for the determined Petulla.

Her signature victory surprisingly came over an always tough and widely respected Antonia. (DWW’s Antonia – A Beautiful Farm Girl In The Land Of Plenty https://femcompetitor.com/?p=1486)

Petulla also had a spirited personality as she challenged the formidable and sexy Dani in an indoor competition making it clear they were going to find out who the better woman was.

The profound naming site sheknows.com allows us to peer deeper into the mind of our blonde wrestling star. An indicator of where we are going starts with Petulla’s name meaning which originates with “To Seek or Attack!”

The naming site continues, “People with this name have a deep inner desire to serve humanity and to give to others by sharing money, knowledge and experience, or creative and artistic ability.

People with this name tend to be creative and excellent at expressing themselves. They are drawn to the arts, and often enjoy life immensely. They are often the center of attention, and enjoy careers that put them in the limelight. They tend to become involved in many different activities, and are sometimes reckless with both their energies and with money.”

Wow! Regarding Petulla, that seems right on the mark. Here are some of Petulla’s interests. She loves spaghetti and wine (don’t we all?) In terms of maintaining her immaculate, shapely figure, she energizes with aerobics and disco dancing.

What she loves in the arts reflects her immense love for life. What is her passion in film?

Watching movies about horses.

There certainly have been many that captured the hearts and spirits of people around the world. Let’s look at a few.

National Velvet: Elizabeth Taylor, as Velvet Brown, lives the dream almost all of us had as children; win a horse in a lottery and turn him into a champion. In this case, young Velvet disguises herself as a boy and wins England’s famous Grand National steeplechase on her beloved Pie.

Champions: This timeless story is testament to the strength of the human spirit, based upon the life of English steeplechase jockey Bob Champion who was stricken with cancer at the age of 31 but never wavered in his dream of winning the Grand National.

Black Beauty: Many versions have been created based upon Anna Sewell’s classic book. Beauty tells his own story about leaving his wonderful first home and being passed through indifferent and abusive owners before finally being reunited with the boy he loved.

Phar Lap: This film re-counts the life of the much-loved Australian racehorse Phar Lap, who raced to stardom in the 1930s, and the gentle groom who loved him. Despite having to carry increasing amounts of weight, the horse is unbeatable.  Phar Lap’s tale ends tragically when he dies under mysterious circumstances soon after winning his most important race—the Agua Caliente Handicap in Mexico.

We all have our favorites and mine was the magnificent film starring Robert Redford as The Horse Whisperer. As the masterful Movie Reviewer Roger Ebert explains, “”The Horse Whisperer” is about a man of great patience, faced with a woman, a child and a horse in great need of it. It evokes the healing serenity of wide-open spaces.”

The story, from the best-selling novel by Nicholas Evans, involves a riding accident that leaves a horse named Pilgrim crippled, and a girl named Grace (Scarlett Johansson) so badly injured that part of her leg must be amputated. The girl’s parents are high-powered New Yorkers.

The father (Sam Neill) is a lawyer, and the mother, Annie (Kristen Scott Thomas), is clearly modeled on New Yorker editor Tina Brown.

Mr. Ebert continues, “Their farm workers believe the horse should be put down (it’s fearful and skittish), but Annie reads about a famed “horse whisperer” named Tom Booker who heals troubled animals. Booker (Redford) turns her down over the phone, but she’s a Type A compulsive who decides to drive both the horse and her daughter to Montana and confront him directly. Her daughter fears “no one will ever want me” with only one leg; if the horse heals, Annie thinks, maybe Grace will heal, too.”

There is so much to love in Petulla’s approach to women’s wrestling. She symbolizes and epitomizes what Female Competition International loves about our great sport. Women at virtually any age can compete, excel to the top or bring amateur intensity and like Petulla, simply have a good time as she did, starting wrestling in her 30’s.

Although some horse lovers won’t admit it, a perfect night is spent in front of the television watching horse movies.

We suspect women wrestling lovers who watch Petulla compete will admit that a perfect night is spent watching her compete in the spirited fashion that she brought to all of her Danube matches.
