When watching Antonia wrestle, in a land bountiful, it makes you want to count your blessings.
Can someone become a legend when they’ve lost 306 times?
Yes, especially when you win 2 Grand Slams and are victorious 609 times. You see, it’s not how much you lose; it’s how much you win and more importantly when and where you win.
The champion we speak of is the Russian Iron Man, Yevgeny Kafelnikov who competed in almost 1,000 tennis matches during his illustrious career and seemed to be out on the courts every time there was a tournament in the 1990s.
In the women’s submission wrestling world, the DWW Iron Woman was Antonia who seemed to be out on the wrestling mats every time DWW had a tournament.
“I think every athlete has their window of opportunity, and you just have to jump on it. You never know when it can end”……..Hope Solo
Here is a brief list of her opponents; Ingrid, Mary Ann, Nikita, Dani, Anastasia, Emanuella, Mel, Kimbra, Adriena, Luzia, muscle girl Maja, Miriam, Mary Ann, Renata, Gloria, Erika, Wendy, Lucille, Luzia, Denise, Lucille, Luzia Patricia, Eva, Iva, Zsuzsa, Antscha, Orsi, Andrea, Lucy H. and others.
Her match with the big sexy girl and DWW Alpha soldier Petra was a beautiful lesson in a protracted ground war. Antonia was in tough but no doubt earned a lot of respect.
Though she lost quite a few, she won enough to be listed in the DWW Hall of Fame even while still active.
Part of what contributed to her stamina and relentless approach to competing can be explained when she expresses she is a farm girl that loves disco. Both require the expending of a lot of energy and you have to dress differently than you normally do. What a combination.
She also speaks Czech.
Let’s fly to the Czech Republic which emanates from the former Czechoslovakia.
Czechoslovakia was a sovereign state in Central Europe that existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until its peaceful dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993.
The sound information source Wikipedia continues. “The Czech Republic is a developed country with advanced economy and high living standards.
The UN ranks the country 14th in the inequality-adjusted human development. The Czech Republic also ranks as the ninth-most peaceful country in Europe, while achieving the best performance in democratic governance and infant mortality in the region.
The country is bordered by Germany to the north-west and west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east and Poland to the north-east. Prague is the capital and largest city, with 1.3 million residents. The Czech Republic includes the historical territories of Bohemia and Moravia, and Czech Silesia.”
The country’s high standard of living and peaceful existence has no doubt allowed the beautiful Antonia to indulge in her favorite food. What is your guess as to what a farm might like best? It’s either cows or chickens, true?
In Antonia’s case it’s chicken.
There is one tasty website, cooks.com, that lists 101 ways to cook chicken. No doubt Antonia has tasted a few. It’s fitting that and iron woman who has participated in endless wrestling matches has a long laundry list of carious ways to enhance her favorite food. We’ll whittle it down for you.
- 1. SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN
- CHICKEN RIVIERA
- SHENANDOAH SPAGHETTI
- PAN FRIED CHICKEN
- Variations of this recipe
- BATTER FRIED CHICKEN
If we begin a conversation about how we cook chicken Chinese style, which this writer loves, we could be here all day. I’ve tasted orange and lemon chicken prepared by a special cook and it was out of this world.
Antonia has good taste.
Let’s peek into the window and look at modern farming in the Czech Republic. I think you are going to be surprised at what you see.
At the respected news and information site Bloomberg.com, on August 13, 2014 the writers Krystof Chamonikolas and Lenka Ponikelska revealed the well-kept secret about the recent boom in Czech farming.
“Czech farmland is among the least expensive in Europe and it offers a conservative investor something that’s very hard to come by these days: safety and a good yield.
Agricultural land values in the Czech Republic are rising after farming profits increased six fold from 2009 to 2013, data from the statistics office in Prague show. The new farmland funds are predicting returns of 6 percent to 10 percent a year as consolidation of smaller plots makes land management more profitable and the gap in prices closes with wealthier neighbors like Austria and Germany.
The price of Czech farmland climbed every year from 2004 to 2013, according to data compiled by Farmy.cz. The value of one hectare (2.5 acres) reached 4,596 euros in 2013, a 94 percent increase over the nine years, the appraiser and agricultural property broker said by e-mail.”
It seems to pay to be a farm girl these days in the Czech Republic.
When I watched Yevgeny Kafelnikov grind out one match after another in the 1990’s the TV commentators would often lament how if he didn’t play at so many of the smaller tournaments he could win more grand slams.
My interpretation was that Yevgeny knew he only had so much time in his legs and joints to play at the highest level while his window was open and decided to make as much money as he could while he was young and strong.
Like all of us when important opportunities come along, our windows are slowly opening and ever so swiftly closing.
Whether Antonia competed extensively on purpose or unintentionally, her window of time on those glorious DWW mats had an expiration date.
It seems she furiously climbed through her window before it permanently closed.
