February 18, 2020,

Traditions that are cherished should be worth holding on to and enhanced.

We need our traditions.

Nothing says great tradition like eating breakfast at Denny’s. How many of us have been doing that over the years?

You will love this story about a waitress who is 80 years old and has worked at the same Denny’s for over 44 years. Simply amazing and amazingly heart-warming.

Denny’s operates over 1,600 restaurants in the United States (including Puerto Rico and Guam), Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Japan, Honduras, New Zealand, Qatar, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Curaçao, and the United Kingdom.

As you see, the tradition of having breakfast at Denny’s sweetens the new world that we live in.

In July 2010, Denny’s presence in the United States saw a major expansion when Pilot Flying J started opening Denny’s locations inside their Flying J-branded truck stop locations.

Denny’s often has a working man’s restaurant persona but they can go upscale too.

Did you hear about this bit of news to raise your glasses to?

On August 29, 2014, Denny’s opened its first location in New York City, with some patrons waiting as long as two hours before its official opening to eat there. Located in Lower Manhattan, the location is designed to be more upscale than the typical Denny’s, serves alcohol, and offers a location-exclusive $300 Grand Cru Slam, which is the typical Grand Slam Breakfast served with a bottle of Dom Pérignon.

Well, when you are in New York and desire the Denny’s experience, you know where to stop.

There are great reasons to continue the Denny’s dining tradition, especially if you are having a birthday soon.

The team at bustle.com sparkle up the new year by informing us of a mouth-watering Denny’s special. They share, “If only for a limited time, Denny’s new Super Duper Slam meal is here to reign over your 2020 breakfasts. Denny’s is no stranger to changing up its offerings. In the past year alone, it’s upgraded its menu with items like the limited-time Denny’s Pancake Puppies and Orange Dreamsicle drink. Now, the chain is adding an endless pancake deal that costs about the same price as an oat milk latte.”

Sounds great to us. It’s early and we are already getting hungry for a delicious breakfast.

Good for us, originally opened as a coffee shop under the name Danny’s Donuts, Denny’s is now known for always being open and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner around the clock. Denny’s does not close on holidays and nights, except where required by law. Many of the restaurants are located in proximity to freeway exits, bars, and in service areas.

Here in Nor Cal where we reside, that holds true. Our Denny’s is right by the entry way onto the freeway. When we eat there, we see so many families having a good time and leaving with a smile. The children have the widest and brightest smiles.

Seems to be the Denny’s way.

Here is what they are doing for children who might be hungry and can’t afford to eat at a restaurant. At their website they smile, “The team members at Denny’s love to feed people, so it is hard for them to imagine kids not getting enough food each day. So, Denny’s partnered with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry program to make ending childhood hunger one of their main philanthropic causes. Every September, Denny’s locations across America participate in Share Our Strength’s Dine Out For No Kid Hungry™, a national fundraising event that brings together thousands of restaurants and millions of consumers to help make sure that no child in America grows up hungry.”

What a wonderful cause. A heart filled way to ring in the New Year.

They also add, “Since 2011, Denny’s has developed Hungry for Education, a scholarship program designed to recognize academic achievement. Today, nine leading non-profit minority advocacy organizations help launch the program in Denny’s restaurant areas where we will award scholarships to elementary, high school and college students for their ideas to help Denny’s fight childhood hunger.”

That is a fight that we are all a part of and one we are confident that, as a society, if we team with Denny’s, we will win.

Of special note, in October of 2004, Dateline NBC aired a segment titled “Dirty Dining”, in which the 10 most popular family and casual dining chains in the United States were examined: Applebee’s, Bob Evans, Chili’s, Denny’s, IHOP, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday, TGI Friday’s, and Waffle House.

As part of the segment, the producers examined the health inspection records for 100 restaurants over 15 months and totaled all of the critical violations, or violations that can result in adverse effects to the customers’ health. Denny’s had the fewest violations, averaging fewer than one violation per restaurant. Denny’s attributes this relative success to its adherence to the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points.

Very impressive.

Okay, okay already. We are famished. It is time to eat and what a special way to start off 2020.
