Comparisons in life are inevitable. Haven’t you ever been told that you look like what’s his face or act like what’s her name or talk like a radio announcer?
Maybe.
When you get compared to the legendary actress Jane Russell, that is high praise indeed. For those of you that skew into the younger generation, Ms. Russell was the dazzling brunette who starred along with the platinum blonde goddess Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
That is the comparison that some have made with Charlie the Golden Katt, a female wrestler who is truly a sexy star and formidable grappler.
The informative site ProWW.com, Professional Women of Wrestling bills itself as the top Female Wrestling Site on the web. Here is what they had to say about the Golden Katt. “Charlie “Golden” Cat if one of a kind. She with her stunning Jane Russell looks, this female wrestler from Hollywood is a true athlete. Her abilities include pro style wrestling to mat grappling skills and with her legs, watch out! Charlie has some of the strongest legs in the business, and she knows how to use them. She is no ordinary wrestler, her confident and dominate personality sets her apart and she always proves to be a challenge for any and all who get shoulder to shoulder with her.”
Hollywood comparisons are appropriate since Charlie got her early start with Glow Wrestling.
Wikipedia explains, “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, also known as GLOW or G.L.O.W., was a professional wrestling promotion for women, begun in 1986 (the pilot was filmed in December 1985) and continued in various forms after it left television. Colorful characters, beautiful women, and over-the-top comedy sketches were integral to the series’ success. Most of the performers were actresses, models, dancers, and/or stunt women hoping to get into show business through wrestling.”
Charlie was known as Salt and entertained with some notable names including Tina Ferrari, Cheryl Rusa and many more show stoppers.
She had the honor of working with the late, gorgeous Cynthia Peretti who was a trainer for David McLane‘s Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling promotion. Ms. Peretti was better known as Princess Jasmine and worked as the tag team partner of Charlie.
When you research Ms. Hayne’s entertainment background, she was all over the map. She tried her hand at stand-up comedy, acting and appeared on the Wally George Show to promote women’s wrestling while enduring Wally’s usual fun but inflammatory banter.
She was also one of the premiere wrestlers at Golden Girls, Steel Kittens, Action Sports, etc.
I loved the 80’s “Big Hair” look that she showcased. It suited her well along with the text book bad girl black gloves.
Some of her matches included battling super star Kristie Etzold, Candi Devine, Destiny, Shelly, Amber, and the super sexy California cat fight beauty Treena Collins,
Our Katt put her track shoes on to run all over the room, around the mats and across the walls to get away from the relentless powerful body builder Sally McNeil who did her best imitation of The Terminator, determined to get her hands on Charlie.
What helped shape this dynamic golden state personality?
Let’s travel to Charlie’s back yard otherwise known as The San Fernando Valley.
The educational and informative site www.thevalley.net announces, “Welcome to the “Valley of the Stars,” Southern California’s San Fernando Valley, encompassing the City of Burbank, City of Calabasas, City of Gendale, City of Los Angeles and City of San Fernando.
Among the world-famous celebrities who have settled in our Valley and helped define our reputation as the “Valley of the Stars” are Bob Hope, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows, and Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
Marilyn Monroe, Ron Howard, Richie Valens, Sally Field and Tom Selleck are just a few among the many more who were raised in our Valley’s friendly communities, attended our schools and launched their stellar careers here.
With more than 100 soundstages producing everything from “Jurassic Park” to “The Tonight Show,” the “Valley of the Stars” is home to the Walt Disney Company, NBC Universal Studios, Warner Bros., CBS Studio Center as well as NBC and ABC Television Studios.”
Charlie is certainly in good company. Wikipedia now adds the caramel mocha.
Walt Disney Concert Hall
The San Fernando Valley (known locally and in surrounding areas as “The Valley“) is an urbanized valley located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area of southern California, defined by the mountains of the Transverse Ranges circling it. Home to 1.8 million people, it lies north of the larger and more populous Los Angeles Basin.
Mulholland Drive, which runs along the ridgeline of the Santa Monica Mountains, marks the boundary between the Valley and the communities of Hollywood and the Los Angeles Westside.”
Famous people in the wrestling industry love working with Charlie as the legendary Bill Wick expresses what it’s like to wrestle Charlie at wb270.com. “” I’ve wrestled the Golden Katt many times over the years and I can report to you that she can squeeze the life out of you if you don’t beg for mercy. She is a Dancer………long legs, creamy skin and hidden crushing power.
You’ll love it, she smiles, talks softly and will not hurt you past what you can handle.”
The great news is that according to wb270.com, the female wrestler site, Charlie appears to be participating in mixed or session wrestling though her competitive days seem to be done.
What I loved about watching Charlie’s matches is that she brings it both physically and emotionally. She loves to promote with energy and humor. She is one tough wrestler so it’s too bad the competitive days are gone because when she’s ready to stir it up, no cement mixer compares.
You can still purchase her matches online.
Charlie the Golden Katt is a great example of the ingredients that can be incorporated in women’s wrestling from the competitive serious side to the glamour and fun. Comparisons to Hollywood actresses are understandable.
Not only did Charlie compete; she entertained with movie star sex appeal as well.

Some may find other women’s wrestling sites erotic in nature. If you are offended by depictions of women wrestling in erotic situations, please exercise caution in visiting women’s wrestling sites.
