A quiet and safe place in a storm is a soothing and calming experience.
In a modern life filled with responsibilities, obligations, financial issues and a busy schedule, where can you find that safe place in the concrete and electronic storm?
Many have turned to meditation, for good reasons.
Transcendental meditation is like a car, a vehicle that allows you to go within. It’s a mental technique.….David Lynch
Female Submission Wrestlers as a whole are a busy group on the go by car and plane constantly. Why might meditation be good for you? We’re going to briefly welcome the thoughts, ideas and enlightenment from others.
A well respected source of enlightenment and news, the Huffington Post speaks to the subject of meditation in an April 2013 article. “Studies show that meditation is associated with improvement in a variety of psychological areas, including stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, eating disorders and cognitive function, among others. There’s also research to suggest that meditation can reduce blood pressure, pain response, stress hormone levels and even cellular health. But what does it actually do to the body?
For one thing, it changes our brain. The cells and neurons in the brain are constantly making new connections and disrupting old ones based on response to stimuli, a quality that researchers call experience-based neuroplasticity. This affects the neural circuits of the brain, which in turn affects how we respond to situations. It also affects the actual structure of our brains — thickening some areas and making others less dense.”
The enjoyable site, foodmatters.tv indirectly expresses something similar. “Now the hard science has caught up: a comprehensive scientific study showing that deep relaxation changes our bodies on a genetic level has just been published. What researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered is that, in long-term practitioners of relaxation methods such as yoga and meditation, far more ”disease-fighting genes” were active, compared to those who practiced no form of relaxation.
In particular, they found genes that protect from disorders such as pain, infertility, high blood pressure and even rheumatoid arthritis were switched on.”
Simply stated, when you relax the parasympathetic nervous system switches on. That is linked to better digestion, memory and immunity, among other things.
Practice meditation regularly. Meditation leads to eternal bliss. Therefore meditate, meditate…….Swami Sivananda
According to the article, there are seven direct benefits to meditation and relaxation. Here they are.
INCREASED IMMUNITY : Relaxation appears to boost immunity in recovering cancer patients. A study at the Ohio State University found that progressive muscular relaxation, when practiced daily, reduced the risk of breast cancer recurrence. In another study at Ohio State, a month of relaxation exercises boosted natural killer cells in the elderly, giving them a greater resistance to tumors and to viruses.
EMOTIONAL BALANCE : Emotional balance, means to be free of all the neurotic behavior that results from the existence of a tortured and traumatized ego. This is very hard to achieve fully, but meditation certainly is the way to cure such neurosis and unhealthy emotional states.
INCREASED FERTILITY: A study at the University of Western Australia found that women are more likely to conceive during periods when they are relaxed rather than stressed. A study at Trakya University, in Turkey, also found that stress reduces sperm count and motility, suggesting relaxation may also boost male fertility.
RELIEVES IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME: When patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome began practicing a relaxation meditation twice daily, their symptoms of bloating, diarrhea and constipation improved significantly. The meditation was so effective the researchers at the State University of New York recommended it as an effective treatment
LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE: A study at Harvard Medical School found that meditation lowered blood pressure by making the body less responsive to stress hormones, in a similar way to blood pressure-lowering medication. Meanwhile a British Medical Journal report found that patients trained how to relax had significantly lower blood pressure.
ANTI-INFLAMATORY: Stress leads to inflammation, a state linked to heart disease, arthritis, asthma and skin conditions such as psoriasis, say researchers at Emory University in the US. Relaxation can help prevent and treat such symptoms by switching off the stress response.
CALMNESS: The simple difference between those who meditate and those who do not, is that for a meditative mind the thought occurs but is witnessed, while for an ordinary mind, the thought occurs and is the boss. So in both minds, an upsetting thought can occur, but for those who meditate it is just another thought, which is seen as such and is allowed to blossom and die, while in the ordinary mind the thought instigates a storm which rages on and on.
Thank you so much foodmatters.tv. That was truly easy to understand and agree with.
Now let’s conclude with an article from Mr. Roy Poetter, an expert in Yoga and Yoga retreats.
Every mind needs a little idle time. We all need time to focus on one task, instead of multi-tasking all day and night. In reality, the mind does not take complete rest during sleep. Our mind moves from dream to dream for about two hours a night and thus remains in an unstable condition for long.
Our mind needs some vacations for relaxation. Have you ever noticed that when you take a vacation, you return with new ideas, new feelings with a better approach, and establish clear priorities? This is a result of getting some time to relax and reflect on your life. The time lets you think clearly, positively and effectively.
Our trouble stems from being so busy that we lose feel within inner self. We fill our time with too many activities to achieve our task. Companies do this with their employees, but we deliberately do it to ourselves. You have the skills to take control of your own life, and the resolution is as simple as daily meditation sessions.
Answers to problems are within us, but many of us do not want to look in depth for fear of what we know ourselves. It’s always easier to blame forces outside of our problems. However, the closure of external distractions and listening to our inner voice is a natural medicine.
Who knows? You can actually find yourself and your identity. This may lead you to make changes and put ideas into practice. All this progress could be made after you make a “meditation” with you. It takes only 20-30 minutes per day for a short meditation session.
There has never been a better time to meditate than right now. People are so “happening” these days, the only time they stop when they are sick. The problem is how people are going to be busy in next 20 years? Now you see why having downtime is so important.
Information on meditation techniques is widely available in books, DVDs and CDs. You do not have to join a monastery, and live by a strict moral code, with a multitude of rules, but you need self-discipline to follow a daily practice.
Curiosity – self-discipline, alone, will keep the masses out of this ancient practice that has survived a battery of tests and modern inspection. It’s amazing when you think about the reward of self-control, satisfaction, and care, resulting from the daily practice of meditation.
