Shel Silverstein penned the famous song “A Boy Named Sue” that was turned into a blockbuster hit by the legendary singer Johnny Cash.

A legendary Fem Competitor has made the name Dragonlily famous in the women’s wrestling world. article, photo article, photo

Sue is long gone. That’s too bad. If Sue and Dragonlily became a couple, what a great Reality Television Show or Lifetime Movie their story would have made. A Boy named Sue and a wife named Dragonlily. It’s the stuff that great insomniac viewing is made of.

In the female wrestling industry we sure are glad that Dragonlily is alive, breathing fire and head locking.

I mean, you’ve got to admit it’s a clever name though I can understand where in certain situations things could get a little awkward. It’s 7pm after a hard day’s work and you’re so hungry you could eat a dragon. So you call for some great take out and the professional voice on the other end of the phone asks, “Please verify your phone number. Thank you. And your name please……”

I’m not so sure it would go well at high end office cocktail parties either.

You’re there because you have to score some point and this well dressed gentleman comes up to you with dragon breath, martini in hand and say’s “Hi, I’m Nathan, Sylvia’s husband. Nice to meet you (hand extended) and what’s your name?”

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m from Bryan, College Station, Texas and I’m certainly not one to judge names. When I was young and hung out down there, I knew Bubba, Buster, Billy Ray, Tommy Ray, Johnny Ray, Bobby Ray, Ronnie Ray and Ray Ray. I’m certain there are more Rays in Texas than all of Australia on the sunniest day.

Okay, so let me put a positive spin on our female wrestler’s name just to prove to you my sincerity.

You’re at a cattle call for a contest to win a large monetary prize or be an extra in a major Hollywood film. There are at least 5,000 people there. Some of them are dressed like Giraffes, Aliens, Gorillas, Tango Dancers, Ghost Busters, Newlyweds, Body Builders, Elmer Fudd and Hookers (oops, sorry they’re real).

The announcer with a really big belly, worn sweat stained baseball cap and a huge bull horn shouts, “Will all of yuz with the name Dragon Lily go up the purple stairs on the right and stand in line.”

See what I mean? In some scenarios it’s absolutely a plus.

I’ve always been a big fan of Dragonlily. When I watch her matches she’s has great skill, tenacity, sex appeal and a sense of humor.

Finally she’s going to clear something up for me that I’ve always been confused about.

She states very clearly at her enjoyable website

“Hello! I am a catfighter and private session wrestler known in the mixed wrestling circuit as Dragon Lily.”

Great. That finally clears things up for me. It’s a stage name. Got it. For a second I thought it was her real name.

Now I’ll be quiet and let our star speak for herself.

She continues at her site, “I was born and raised on the island of O’ahu of Hawai’i and now call Las Vegas, Nevada my home away from home. My ethnicity is a mixture of Chinese, Visayan Filipina, Japanese, Mongolian and Chamorro. As I child in the island living, I was introduced to many different martial arts, but it was not until I was a teenager in high school that I discovered Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.”

Like most Fem Competitors, Dragonlily has a fascinating life history. In addition to the above she was a cheerleader, gymnast and engaged in other sports activities. It was much later after high school that she began to model.

Her stellar resume includes competitions against industry stars like Jolene, San Jose super star Isamar, Nikki Jackson, Wenona, Cheyenne Jewel, Rain DeGrey, Orsi, Bella Rossi, Jezabella, Kymberly Jane and others.

I know people that know her and they all describe her as fun, professional and skilled.

Let’s travel to Honolulu, her birthplace and learn more about the village that formed our industry star. article, Wikimedia photo article, Wikimedia photo

We get the swaying palm trees and sand from Wikipedia. “Honolulu is the state capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is the county seat of the City and County of Honolulu. Hawaii is situated on the island of Oahu, is the main gateway to Hawaii and a major gateway into the United States. The city is also a major hub for international business, military defense, as well as famously being host to a diverse variety of east-west and Pacific culture, cuisine, and traditions.”

So many of us have been to the great tourist mecca of Honolulu and I’m sure we all have a story to tell. My question is what’s new in the land of great snorkeling? Here is one of the many things that are new and exciting in Honolulu.

The transportation site,,  speaks to a dynamic present and efficient future. article, photo article, photo

“The purpose of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project, or Honolulu High-Capacity Transit Corridor Project, is to provide high-capacity rapid transit in the highly congested transportation corridor situated between Kapolei and UH Manoa and Waikiki. The project will improve corridor mobility, transit reliability, and service equity, while improving access to master planned development, including the second city of Kapolei.”

Very exciting. There’s more.

They continue, “The Honolulu Rail Transit Project, or Honolulu High-Capacity Transit Corridor Project, is a 20-mile elevated rail line featuring 21 stations. The project will connect West Oahu with the Honolulu International Airport continuing through downtown Honolulu with a final stop at Ala Moana Center. article, photo article, photo

A total travel time of 42 minutes, including stops, will take passengers from the beginning of the line in East Kapolei to its end-point at Ala Moana Center.

The system features modern, electric, steel-wheel-on-steel rail trains each capable to carry hundreds of passengers in each direction. The system will move approximately 8,000 passengers in each direction during peak-travel hours.”

That truly is great news for the environment. The expectations are by year 2030, about 116,300 trips per weekday are expected on rail transit. The system will remove about 40,000 vehicles from their roads each weekday by the year 2030.

Approximately 10,000 jobs each year will be attributed to the construction of the rail project.

I know it’s time to leave but it’s always hard to leave paradise. Let’s sip an exotic cocktail and listen to one more description.

Hanauma Bay article, Wikimedia photo article, Wikimedia photo

A great travel site, reminds us, “Naturally, when most visitors think of beaches here, they think of the famous Waikiki Beach. As the tourist center of the Hawaiian Islands, this white sand beach, framed by hotels and Diamond Head as a backdrop, is easily the most crowded.

But if you really need to get away from the crowds, there are plenty of other beaches. Just to the west, near Downtown, is Ala Moana Park, a green space with plenty of trees and grass as well as a nice sandy beach that’s popular with the locals and is perfect for families or a calmer swim.

The area surrounding Makapu’u Point in Eastern Honolulu has several excellent beaches; the most popular being Hanauma Bay, which is set in the crater of an extinct volcano, now open to the sea and filled with a coral reef. This is not the place for a good swim and certainly not the spot for surfing, but the calm water and abundance of marine life makes it excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving.”

I’m ready to go again but not before I give our world traveler Dragonlily her due.

Like many female wrestlers who have a great industry reputation, Dragonlily participates in mixed wrestling with men. Here is what one of her satisfied customers had to say at

“This was the session experience of my life! DragonLily is gorgeous, and I found her to be a skilled wrestler and professional in every respect.”

Dragonlily is currently located in Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas. She’s great at providing choices and options and here is one of them. “I sometimes use my secondary office/condo for sessions, if you need a discrete location while in Las Vegas for our session; please inquire about the use of my secondary office.”

Good to know.

So much about life is how an experience makes us feel.

Every time that I watch Dragonlily compete, I feel satisfied. Many female wrestlers make me feel that way. That’s why I love our industry so much. I have to give Dragonlily credit. There are so many, names in the global female wrestling game that at times it’s hard to stand out or be remembered. Some sites will boast a wrestler list with over forty names. It’s hard to recall them all. So now I know why our star of the story chose such an unforgettable name.

Just like a Boy Named Sue, it’s not a name you will forget.
